My life after Baruch...

I am planning to graduate from Baruch College in Summer 2010 if everything goes well.

After college I have several goals. The first is to move to California with my boyfriend. I've never been there before but he has always tried to convince me that it's the best place ever. So for him, I'll give it a try. To be frank, I am a little worried about this move because I don't know much about California. Also, moving there means I will have to drive a lot. To be honest I am scared of driving after my first accident shortly after I got my license (it wasn't my fault, but a total shock!!). And it is hard for me to leave the friends I got to know in New York.

Optimally, after the move, I want to work for 2 years or so. I think I would enjoy a sales position as this will help my future career plans. However after a couple of years of working I would like to take time off to have a baby. If for some reason I can't have a baby, I want to adopt children. I wouldn't want to work during this time because I definitely want to put family before career. Like my mom, I am very traditional in this matter--we both believe that children are the key to true happiness.

After that I will be ready to start my dream job of owning my own store. I've never liked bosses, so I figure this is the only job I could really handle. Being my own boss! My mom currently owns her own store and she is very happy with it. When I lived with my family, I used to help out my mum at her store and I love to deal with customers. So I know that running a store will come naturally for me. Since I love to use all-natural health care products and I am convinced that they are the best for people and the environment, this is what I would like to sell in my store.

Finally, if my boyfriend and I are succesful in California, I would like to bring my brother to the States to stay with us. He loves the U.S. and he dreams of going to High School here.

It's hard to put one goal ahead of any of the others because they all are very important to me. So I guess I'll just keep putting action toward my visions and hope that with dedication all of my goals can be fulfilled.

  1. You have your future plans laid out very well, and i applaud you for it! I also agree with you that having a child will provide true happiness, especially for us women, who are meant to be nurturers and care takers.
-What kind of health products do you want to sell in your store?

  2. I had natural oils and products for cosmetic and food supplement in mind, as well as teas and coffee. It is scientifically proven that oils have better curing results than drugs, so my store would be similar to a natural pharmacy including a tea and coffee section.

  3. I have to say wow! When i was writing this blog, i never stopped to think about my marriage life, maybe it's because i still don't think of myself to the point where i need to marry in another few years, but thanks for bringing it up! Now i should start thinking!

I have to agree with you about not liking the bosses, i've worked at several places, even if i do like the boss, i hate the feeling of being boss around and telling me to do this and that, this is actually one of the reason why i want to be my own boss.

  4. I believe that you will become a good mom because you wish to sacrifice few years to take care your little baby. Sometimes I think that if stop from working for a period, I will lose the sense of whats going on in the market, and I might fall behind. After I read your entries, I know that there are lots things important then working.-- that is become a great mother!

  5. I was wondering, what part of California are you moving into? Recently, I just visited LA. It is very different from NYC. I love the weather over there. I wish you all the best in your life.

P.S. I believe you will be a great mother!!

  6. its really great that even with your goals on owning your own business you have your family in mind. Some people can't leave one place because of the life they've already created but its great you plan to keep your brother connected and to think of your parents when you open your store.

  7. It's great that you have such a great balance between your career and personal goals.

Your personal goal of having a baby and becoming a mother should definitely be the goal to adopt as part of your personal vision plan of the future, especially since you know this is the key to your true happiness =]. Like those above me have said, you'll make a great mom; I'm sure of it.

It's normal to feel anxiety when you move to a new place, like California, but remember how it was when you moved to NYC and when you were on your path to independence. It may have not been the smoothest path, but you made it, and there's no doubt in my mind that you'll make it in California as well.

I admire the fact that you're supporting your brother's dream of going to high school here, too, and I hope it happens =].

Good luck on all your future endeavors! =]

  8. I feel the same way about California; all that driving is just not for me, I like trains better and it's better for the environment in a sense.

I like the way you think about having your own store. From my point of view it seems like you like a challenge, so moving to California and being your own boss seem like second nature to you. It won't be easy but I don't think you would have it any other way. =]

  10. cali is definitely a nice place to go, depending on which part, but you shouldnt worry too much. i think your vision of becoming your own boss is great as so many other people also strive for a goal similar to that, but it seems you have it more planned out than others which is why i believe that you will succeed.

  11. Hello,

In regards to your question, how many kids am I planning on having, mostly likely 2 or 3 kids. I don't mind having more, but it's very expensive to raise so many kids.
